What is Wellness Coaching?

UARK Wellness aims to help our community achieve academic and personal success, which is why all students have access to FREE wellness coaching, provided by our trained Peer Wellness Coaches.

Wellness Coaching is a collaboration between you and your wellness coach to identify motivations, values, and strengths to assist you in making positive lifestyle changes. Wellness coaches act as a support system and sounding board for any stage of your wellness journey.  

  

Whether it’s improving your time management skills, making social connections, or focusing on your overall wellness, a Coach can help you build a plan to reach your wellness goals. While a coach’s job is not to provide advice or a treatment plan for you, they will be your ally and resource in your wellness journey.

  • How do I know if coaching is for me? 

    • Wellness Coaching is for any student who wants support in building healthier habits, finding balance, or working toward personal and academic goals. If you’re looking for a non-judgmental space to explore your values, strengths, and motivations, coaching can help you create a personalized plan for success. Whether you’re hoping to improve time management, make social connections, or clarify your wellness goals, a coach can serve as a supportive ally to keep you accountable and moving forward. 

  • How is coaching different from counseling? 

    • Wellness coaching is a service that supports college students by enhancing holistic wellness, health and success through empowering conversations about strengths and goals; counseling supports college students by providing effective treatment for mental health concerns. 

  • Who are the Wellness Coaches? 

    • A few of our most experienced Wellness Peer Educators go through additional, in-depth training and supervision to be able to serve as Peer Wellness Coaches. Our Peer Wellness Coaches are trained in evidence-based models of coaching and relational support by UARK Wellness full-time staff. 

  • Can I do sessions over Zoom? 

    • All initial intake sessions are conducted in the Wellness Suite in the Pat Walker Health Center (HLTH 2132). After your initial intake, your coach will determine if you are able to conduct meetings via Zoom or Teams. 

  • Who can participate in Wellness Coaching?  

    • Coaching is available for all students at the University of Arkansas, from undergraduates to Ph.D. students. Common areas of support include time management, balancing academics and personal life, developing social connections, and exploring your personal wellness goals.
