A family member is considered a spouse, partner, and/or children under the age of 26. In order to prove familial status within these considerations, documentation may be requested.

Spouses are those persons who are recognized by the State of Arkansas as being legally married.  A valid marriage certificate or other documentation accepted by the State of Arkansas for proof of marriage may be required.

Partners are those persons who meet the following conditions:

  • Sole domestic partner and intend to remain so indefinitely, jointly responsible for each other.
  • Jointly responsible for each other’s common welfare, share financial obligations, and share primary residence. Joint responsibility may be demonstrated by the existence of two or more of the following: a joint real estate mortgage, lease or deed; current beneficiary designation naming the domestic partner as a beneficiary of life insurance, retirement plan, or a will; joint ownership of a motor vehicle; joint checking, savings account and/or joint credit account, or other documentation to be approved at the discretion of University Recreation + Wellness.
  • Not married to anyone and are at least eighteen (18) years of age and mentally competent to consent to contact.
  • Not related by blood to a degree of closeness that would prohibit marriage in the state of Arkansas.
  • A completed domestic partnership agrement may be required to purchase a membership.

Minors, any dependent under the age of 18, are not allowed to be in the building without a parent or guardian. Children four (4) years of age and older may not enter the locker room of the opposite sex.  University Recreation + Wellness employees cannot accompany children into the locker rooms to assist with the changing of clothes, restroom breaks, etc.  Parents must make the appropriate accommodations with their eligible family members or family acquaintances to assist minors in the building.

For more information on acceptable documentation for proof of familial status, or questions, please email urec@uark.edu

Additionally, our UREC Outdoors department offers exciting ways to stay active:

  • Camping equipment, kayak, and canoe rentals
  • A bouldering and climbing wall inside the HPER building
  • A bike shop with mechanics and open stand time for repairs
  • Trips and activities to explore local lakes, rivers, and mountains

Our Wellness team also provides valuable resources and outreach initiatives aimed at enhancing the health and wellbeing of our campus community. Members can attend Wellness Lunch & Learn workshops throughout the semester to connect with health and wellness resources.

Furthermore, the Sports Injury Clinic offers no-cost services such as injury evaluations, rehabilitation, and emergency care. Members can schedule appointments with an Athletic Trainer directly on our website.
