Fitness Centers
University Recreation offers multiple fitness spaces located in the HPER building and the Arkansas Union.
- The HPER Building has 6 fitness center spaces available for the duration of our renovation.
- Our racquetball court hallway located on the 1st floor includes a variety of strength machines that allows for a full body workout.
- Racquetball Court 4 located on the 1st floor includes functional training equipment such as plyo boxes, dumbbells, resistance bands, benches, our FitBench, and more.
- The Functional Training Space is located on the 1st floor of the HPER building in the racquetball court hallway next to UREC Cycle.
- Gym 1 located on the 2nd floor includes a variety of cardio equipment, strength machines, 4 flat benches, 3 incline benches, 2 decline benches, 1 military press bench, 1 plate loaded leg press, 5 squat racks, 1 assisted squat rack, 5 Olympic platforms, and various dumbbells.
- The UREC Train and UREC Cycle studios located on the 1st floor are available for open use anytime there is not a UREC Program scheduled.
- The UREC Fitness Center is located on the 2nd floor of the Arkansas Union.
Policies
You must have a valid University of Arkansas or University Recreation ID card to enter any UREC facility. To learn more about fitness center do's and don'ts, refer to the Fitness Center policies.
Fitness Center Orientation Program
Our Fitness Center Orientation Program will provide you with a better understanding of what equipment we have to offer, where it is located, and how to adjust the equipment piece to best fit your workout.
This program includes a 45 minute, 1-on-1 session with a fitness center staff member and can be completed in any of our fitness spaces including at HPER (Temporary Fitness Space in Gym 1 on the 2nd floor or the Functional Training Space on 1st floor) or at the UREC Fitness Center located in the Arkansas Union. Lifting Programs
Power Lifting Clinic Series
For individuals new to Power lifting, the Power Lifting Clinic is a 3 week series consisting of one (1) hour clinics that emphasizes proper technique as the critical foundation for learning power lifts. The clinic is run by USAW Level 1, CSCS certified coach, and Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach for Razorback Athletics, Emily Guimond.
For experienced lifters, this clinic will offer the opportunity to review or improve form.
Each clinic will be limited to 12 participants, provide one (1) hour of technique instruction and hands-on lifting with coaching feedback. In each clinic the instructor will focus on a single lift.
Clinics will be held in Gym 1 located in the HPER Building
There are no additional clinics scheduled at this time.
Olympic Lifting Clinic Series
For individuals new to Olympic lifting, the Beginner’s Olympic Lifting Clinic is a 3 week series consisting of one (1) hour clinics that emphasizes proper technique as the critical foundation for learning Olympic lifts. The clinic is run by USAW Level 1, CSCS certified coach, and Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach for Razorback Athletics, Emily Guimond .
